Plimmerton Railway Station on the Kapiti line of Wellington's suburban rail network is one of the three termini of the line where services regularly commence and terminate. The current building was opened in 1940 but by the turn of the century was looking tired and well worn.
It was the announcement by Toll Rail, before the railways were renationalised, that it would replace the station with a simple shelter, that motivated locals to save the station and restore it.
